NEVER (or almost never) fight when outnumbered. The enemy prioritizes shield repair, so often, one will leave the fight with you and allow you to 2-on-one the other. The fast enemy will show up first and you can 2-on-1 them until they die, then 2-on-one the other.Īnother trick, damage the shield room. I think it was Twinge who named this the "safety dance." Another trick, which you can do with humans or other weaker, slower boarders, but is particularly good with Mantis, is if you have a fast enemy and a slow enemy, move the Mantis boarding crew to the other end of the ship. This will let you protect whichever mantis has less health. Originally posted by Empiro:One useful trick is to swap positions - pause, move your mantis out of the room, and then move them back one at a time in the right order. Normally with boarding you can get random weapon drops, but if you only get lame weapons like hull weapons, just suck it up and buy one. You'll want to get another weapon by the end of Sector 4. Yes you'll take a descent amount of damage before you can kill the crew that has a Medbay or Zoltan shield. My advice if you face a Medbay ship before then is just to blow it up.

This won't work well with your starting crew since that means your piloting is empty. Run everyone into a different room once they come out of the Medbay, one will prioritize the shields instead of your crew, the others can bring him down to 10 HP and then finish him off in the Medbay.

Then kill all but the ones that hide in the Medbay and punch the shield room to death, which you'll have enough time to do if the Medbay isn't level 2. So if the enemy ship has a Medbay, instead of dealing damage, just run around until you can put 2 more boarders on the ship. You can try to bust up the shield room while they are hiding in the medbay. The 2nd set of boarders won't take much damage unless you're boarding a Mantis ship or one with a Medbay. Getting a 4th Mantis helps, but 3 Mantis and 1 Human or even a Zoltan still make an effect boarding crew. Walk into shield room, watch your guys make 3 attack animations, walk out, watch them make 3 attacks, and walk in again. You will take occation hits when walking through doors and won't be doing any damage, but you'll take far less damage. Just keep running between the shield room and something else. You can use this to keep your baorders healthy while you wait to teleport your 3rd and 4th boarder. The AI will prioritize the shield room above everything but healing. I never knew about that pause trick though, it worked really well when I needed to use it on my latest attempt, thanks! I usually struggle when they have a Zoltan shield up or they have a med bay as I can’t really do anything until they have sent at least a few good volleys at me already, and usually I prioritize taking out weapons before the med bay.

One useful trick is to swap positions - pause, move your mantis out of the room, and then move them back one at a time in the right order. In either case, 2 mantis is usually enough to take out most ships' crew. If you upgrade to teleport 2, you can generally teleport out most situations (including on autoships). You start off with a Small Bomb, which is great at knocking out enemy medbays and clonebays. Originally posted by Empiro:What kinds of enemy are you having trouble with? Mantis A is one of the easier ships in my opinion - It's a boarding ship, so you should be getting plenty of scrap from most fights.
